That’s exactly why we designed the Arena Operations Institute. To provide you with the practical tips, techniques and solutions you need for success without incurring the hard knocks that come with on-the-job learning.
This intensive week of training focuses on the unique challenges you face as an arena operator and offers solutions to help you fully achieve your potential.
Program
The Maritime Arena Operations Institute has gained a reputation as providing an excellent training opportunity for arena personnel.
The Maritime Arena Operations Institute course material meets the needs of arena personnel in the rapidly changing arena industry.
The Level I course has been designed as an introduction to various aspects of arena operation and is ideal for those with minimal arena experience or are new to arenas. Arena managers would benefit from the information obtained in Level I.
The Level II course provides the more experienced arena operator with the opportunity to sharpen their skills through practical, hands-on learning situations, while at the same time gaining advanced training in the arena industry. Participants are evaluated on their knowledge of refrigeration, ice making and ice resurfacers. Level II is generally reserved for those with at least 10 years experience working in an arena or 5 years experience and previous attendance at an approved training program or successful completion of MAOI Level 1.
¨ Ice Resurfacers
Level 1
Be aware of safety practices with respect to the operation of the ice resurfacer ...understand the basic operation of the ice resurfacer … be able to identify its various components … understand the basic method of changing/leveling/adjusting a blade … know the basic maintenance (daily, monthly, yearly) practices of the ice resurfacer and ice edger.
Level 2
Understand relationship between the ice surface, the refrigeration system and ice resurfacer … know the dangers associated with the operation of the ice resurfacing equipment … be able to demonstrate basic maintenance practices of the ice resurfacer and ice edger … be aware of air quality issues concerning resurfacing equipment … know preventative maintenance practices for both the ice resurfacer and ice edger … know how to properly shave and flood the ice.
¨ Ice Making
Level 1
Understand the factors in successful ice making … know how to properly measure, layout and mark the floor for ice painting ...now the importance of surface preparation and how to seal the floor … now and understand the basic practices of quality ice maintenance … understand how to build a quality sheet of ice … now and understand the factors that affect a quality sheet of ice … understand the process to correct problems with ice surface.
Level 2
Know how to prepare, mark and seal the arena floor for painting ...be able to trouble shoot problems with ice quality … understand the impact of humidity on ice quality … now and understand liability issues with ice maintenance … understand energy conservation and its relationship to ice thickness.
¨ Refrigeration
Level 1
Understand the principles of refrigeration … identify refrigeration equipment and function … understand refrigeration controls … understand refrigeration system operation and maintenance … understand dangers associated with the operation of the refrigeration equipment ...know the Acts, regulations and codes related to refrigeration.
Level 2
Understand the principles of refrigeration … identify refrigeration equipment and function …understand refrigeration controls ...understand refrigeration system operation and maintenance … know and understand dangers associated with the operation of refrigeration equipment … know the Acts, regulations and codes related to refrigeration.

Cancellation Policy
If a withdrawal is required prior to 5:00pm on June 15th a 30% administration cost will be deducted. However, after June 15, if a withdrawal is required no refund will be issued, you may, however, substitute another person to attend at no additional charge.
If the course is cancelled for any reason, we will contact the registrants and provide a full refund.
